Cover Layout Ideas
In the end I used a mixture of all three of these cover ideas as I felt it fit better than just following one of the plans above directly.
Contents Page Layout Ideas
In the end I followed my second contents page idea a lot more than the others, the only difference between my actual contents page and the drawing is that I two smaller pictures on the bottom half instead of another large picture.
Double Page Spread Layout
This idea was ruled out when my teacher reminded me that the main image would be directly in the centre of the two pages where the magazine is folded. This would of meant that the audience wouldn't have been able to see my image very clearly. Also I felt like their would be too much going on if I had the pictures going up the side off the picture. Finally I feel like if I did use this idea their wouldn't off been much off the actual article, this would have been a bad idea since in my questionnaire the majority of people said that the articles were the best part of a magazine.
I decided to follow this plan in the end as I felt it would of had the right balance of pictures and writing. The only difference between this and my actual double page spread is that I put the title of the page where the quote was going to be and I moved he location of the pull quote.

Unused Photos
I didn't use this photo as the framing was wrong, there was too much space above their heads which looked a bit weird. Also the fact that their whole body was showing except their feet made the shot look odd, it almost looks like a mix of a mid shot and a long shot. Another reason this photo was unusable was that one of the models wasn't looking at the camera, I would of preferred it if they were all giving the camera a direct gaze.
Once again in this picture the framing was wrong they were too far too the right I would of liked them to be centre. Also when they threw the leaves into the air the camera lost focus which meant that the leaves went all blurry. Since the leaves were going in front of the models faces it became hard to see them and the picture then became unusable. Another reason was that I had forgot to ask them to remove their bags from the shot and because of this they ended up being very noticeable. I didn't like this as I felt that it made the photo look messy and disorganized.
I liked this photo as I felt it captured the happiness that they all felt it also made them look like the cheeky girl band they are supposed to be. This photo is a long shot of my three models inside a stereotypical red London telephone box. I liked the idea of incorporating an iconic British symbol like the red telephone box in my photo as it meant that everyone would know where this girl group is from. In the end this photo was in the bottom two for my contents page however I decided not to use it. The only reason for this decision was that when I placed it in my magazine I just felt like the other magazine worked better.
This is a long shot of my sister and her friends I didn't use this photo as I felt like the picture wasn't as crisp and clear as it should be. I also think that this photo would have looked better if I came in a tiny bit closer. Apart from this I thought that it was a good photo, the overall framing was nice and the vibrant yellow really captured the season of autumn.
These were some images that I produced on my photo-shoot with my sister and her friends in London. I used a photo from this photo-shoot in my contents page. When it came to make-up and clothing I asked them to do it themselves just because I felt like they would be able to produce better looks than I would. Also because they were all older than me by 7 or more years and they were all close friends they would know how to dress like a girl group better than I would.
This photo is in-between a mid shot and a long shot, it was just after Halloween and I thought that since I'm making an autumn magazine I could incorporate Halloween into it. My sisters still had their Halloween costumes so I thought that we might as well take some photos with them. The problem with this photo is that I was only visiting my sisters in London and because we didn't plan to have a photo-shoot I didn't bring my camera so I used my iPhone. However the pictures came out a bit pixelated and not very clear. I thought that by editing them it would make them look better but I was wrong. Also in the background you can see a radiator, this would have been very hard to crop out as I would have lost her fingers as well, so I thought it would be best if I din't use this picture.
This is a close-up of my models face, once again this photo was taken with my iPhone so it didn't come out as clear and crisp as I would have liked. I didn't use this photo as I found that when putting my magazine together having Halloween pictures in it didn't really go with my genre.
Like the previous pictures I didn't have my camera with me when taking this photo, I thought that maybe my phone would be okay but it came out a but blurry and once again I didn't feel like this image would connect with my magazine. I decided that it didn't really make sense too have my models posing in this way as you wouldn't really see this in music magazines.
I was unable to use this picture not because of how it looked but because I had just been told that all images had to be original and I unfortunately did not take this photo and it wasn't taken for the sole purpose of my magazine.
This is a low angle photo and it was my original contents page picture but I felt like it was too summery against all the other pictures, especially since it says that the date is October in my magazine. Also the framing in this picture is kind of off, there is too much space on her right and not enough on her left, as you can see her feet have been slightly chopped off.
These were some of the pictures from the photo-shoot of my front cover. As you can see there are a number of different framing you have a high angle, close-up and mid-shot. Also the editing is different in each in the first I made it black and white, in the end I realised that no music magazine that I have looked at have used a black and white front cover. The second picture has a cooler undertone and the red in the hat as been emphasised slightly whereas in the third the colours are slightly warmer they're more yellowy. I decided to use a young male model as my front cover as I felt it would connect with my audience, teenage girls, a lot more than a female model would. I decided to use a guitar as a prop as this would emphasise that my magazine is a music magazine. In then end I didn't use any of these photos as in each of them the framing isn't right. In the first my masthead would cover his face so that made the photo unusable. In the second I used a high angle and had him facing away this meant that you couldn't really see anything except his hat. I felt like nobody would buy the magazine if this was the front cover as they wouldn't be able to actually see who the model was. The third was okay but you couldn't really see that he was holding a guitar.
Programmes Used
When making my magazine I used a number of different of programmes for different things. The actual magazine was made on Serif PagePlus, this was a programme that I had used once before but I still consider myself a beginner.
This programme was really good as it had everything you would need for example; the cut-out studio, the ability to zoom in and move things a few mm if you wished, you could change the colours of everything and it gave you the ability to edit your photos in Serif PhotoPlus and have the changes appear directly to your magazine in PagePlus. The downside to this programme was that on our school computer system it kept changing which version of PagePlus you had (x5 or x7), this meant that every so often the work that you had saved would turn out a bit differently the next time you opened it there were some cases where some of your work was actually deleted. This meant that a lot of time was wasted trying to fix your work again.
Another program that I used was Serif PhotoPlus, this program let me edit all of my photos whether that was to turn them into black and white like my double page spread photo or to enhance the colours in my contents page image. The good thing about PhotoPlus was that every time you made a change to your image it would automatically change the image I had on PagePlus, this meant that I didnt have to keep savign each individual image. This saved time, even if it was only an insignificant amount.
